The Lidon Group: A Legacy of Growth, Innovation, and Family Values

Founded in 1954 in the small town of Monasterevin, County Kildare, the Lidon Group’s story is one of humble beginnings, resilience, and unwavering dedication to quality and service. What started as a modest garage & mechanic shop has blossomed into a diverse and thriving family-owned business empire, leaving a legacy across Leinster.

The Early Years: Foundations of a Family Business

Joe Fitzpatrick, inspired by a passion for automobiles and a commitment to serving his local community, opened a small garage in Monasterevin. Initially, the business focused on basic car repairs and servicing, earning a reputation for honesty, reliability, and personal care. Dedication laid the foundation for what would become the Lidon Group.

As the years went by, Joe’s sons, Liam and Donal, joined the business, bringing fresh ideas and energy. Recognising the growing demand for motor vehicles and agricultural machinery in the region, they expanded the services and offerings of the garage, venturing into car sales and parts supply. The family’s core values—integrity, community focus, and a passion for excellence—remained central to their growth.

Growth and Diversification: Building a Regional Presence

Throughout the 1980’s, the Lidon Group expanded steadily. The family diversified into new sectors, establishing several motor dealerships representing renowned brands, and branching into agricultural machinery to serve Ireland’s vibrant farming community. Their reputation for trustworthy service and quality products propelled their growth beyond Monasterevin.

In the 1990s, the group embraced modernization, investing in new facilities, training, and technology. They also introduced the first large motorway services facility on the M7, and food and beverage outlets at various dealership locations, catering to the needs of busy road users and local residents alike.

A Modern Enterprise: Embracing Change and Innovation

By the early 2000s, the Lidon Group had established itself as a leader in multiple sectors across Leinster. To support this expanding footprint, the company established a dedicated support office in 2016, centralizing key functions such as Finance, HR, Facilities, and Marketing. This enhanced operational efficiency, consistency, and strategic oversight, ensuring each associated company could focus on its core business while benefiting from shared expertise.

Today, the Lidon Group employs over 350 people across its various companies. Its workforce is proud of its family roots and its commitment to nurturing talent, fostering a positive working environment, and giving back to the communities it serves.
